Hi Guys, so this is my first version of project 1.
Right now I'm calling it Shelter. I want to make a temporary house (tent) form that I could actually sleep and hang out in. The image on the left is a more complicated version of my original shape. I want to use unfired clay in combination with other materials to build it. I'm not sure right now if the more complicated version, made from clay is possible for our due date, but do plan on making some kind of full size Shelter for that time.

  1. Hi Laura,

It's great to see how your project is developing from the initial proposal.

Depending on the combination of materials you use, this object may imply a nomadic structure (using any material that one can pick up, accumulate, and/or fold easily would do this), while the unfired clay could deny easy portability of the product or promote customization. It's curious that the clay becomes vacillating agent in the meaning of this work: as the clay disintegrates, the tent becomes a site specific object (perhaps relic if the tents bones were left exposed). Pretty neat way of using material.

In some ways your Shelter reminds me of Kendall Busters work (in relation to a tent like material with a bone like structure to support it) http://www.kendallbuster.com/. In relation to a marker that is placed on a location/history while the elements expand and contract residue (material and meaning = residue) off the placed marker, would be Ellen Harvey’s 2003 project: Painting on a Painting http://www.ellenharvey.info/projects.html--
